Game Audio
This project marks my first experience using Wwise to create sound effects for a game. I began by taking an introductory course in game sound design during the spring of 2024, which provided me with foundational knowledge of implementing sound ininteractive media. Over the course of 4-5 weeks, I dedicated one week to learning thebasics of Wwise through an online course, followed by hands-on implementation into the project. The process involved designing, creating, and integrating a variety of sound effects to enhance gameplay immersion.
Here are the specific sound effects I created and implemented for this project:
Footsteps:
1. Randomized variations of footsteps to avoid repetition.
2. Terrain detection to dynamically adjust the sound based on surfaces (e.g., grass, stone, wood).
3. 8 different terrain detections, 24 different sounds.
Elemental Attack Sounds:
1. Ice: Crisp and sharp sounds to evoke the chilling nature of the element.
2. Fire: A violent explosion and the sound of burning left after the explosion.
3. Water: Splashing and flowing effects to reflect fluid motion.
4. Poison: Dense bubbling sounds.
Character Actions:
Jumping: Created the specific short gasping sound that people make when jumping.
Sprinting: The sound of sprinting and sliding, with the character’s movement speed.
Death: Three different scream sounds loop。
Low Health Heartbeat: A pulsating heartbeat sound that intensifies to alert players of critical health levels.
Monster Sound EffectsChewing: Wet, gnashing sounds to bring the monster’s eating animations to life.
Portal and Teleportation Effects:
Portal: Ethereal and resonant sounds to capture the mystical aspect of a portal.
Teleportation: A whooshing, fading sound to signify instant spatial movement.
This project not only allowed me to apply the technical skills I gained in Wwisebut also pushed me to think creatively about how sound can be used to immerse players in the game world. It was a highly rewarding experience, and I look forward to further advancing my skills in sound design for future projects.
